Canada has over 60 Prostate Cancer Support Groups that meet once a month. This Richmond group in British Columbia is founded in 2013 by volunteers and focused on providing help to Chinese-speaking men, but everyone is welcome. We speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin, meet on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Seniors Centre of Minoru Centre for Active Living (7191 Granville Avenue, Richmond, BC V6Y 1N9 Multipurpose Room 1 (1033)). Join us for the professional presentation and talk to other men and family members who have been dealing with prostate cancer for weeks, months or even years.

No registration is required and all ages are welcome. Please swipe your Facility Pass ($36/year for seniors 55+ or spouses) or pay a $5 drop-in fee at the front desk when arriving for each session.

If you want to chat one on one with a survivor, you may drop in our walking club. The Richmond Blue Walkers walk 5-10 km on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-11 am, along the beautiful river dykes and parks in Richmond (Walk in the Richmond Shopping Centre during the rainy days or cold seasons). History of Richmond Prostate Cancer Support Group & Richmond Blue Walkers

History

By invitation and encouragement from Ms Leah Lariviere, Executive Director of PCFBC, Daniel Leung founded the Chinese-speaking support group on March 13, 2013. Dr Wellam Yu Ko, PhD, RN from the UBC School of Nursing, has acted as volunteer advisor of the support group and has attended almost every meeting since 2013.

About Us

Len Gross, leader and founder of the Vancouver Prostate Cancer Support Group, shares his expertise at the first Richmond Prostate Cancer Support Group meeting in 2013.We speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. We are volunteers focused on providing help to Chinese-speaking men from across Canada, but everyone is welcome.  We have professional guest speakers on the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Topics include general information on prostate diseases, diagnosis, treatments & side effects of prostate cancer, and providing mental support to new patients and their family.

Volunteering

The Richmond Support Group is very proud of its many supporters who have volunteered to put up booths to provide information and help spread awareness about prostate cancer at health fairs, transit centres, and libraries, as well as volunteered at PCFBC events.  Volunteering together has brought our group closer and created an important sense of community.  Our group is pictured volunteering at the first Richmond Poker Stop of the 2014 Westcoast Motorcycle Ride to Live.
Richmond Blue Walkers

The participants of the Richmond support group started a 10K walking club on May 18, 2017. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, the Richmond Blue Walkers complete a 2-hour walk along the beautiful river dikes around the City of Richmond.

Now, we have an average of 10-20 walkers; it is one of the community walking groups open for cancer patients, family and supporters. We walk rain or shine and snow days. And it's a great way for us to get some exercise while also sharing support with each other.

Our group also proudly participates in PCFBC's Father's Day Walk/Run.
