British Columbia has over 20 Prostate Cancer Support Groups meet once a month. This group is focused on providing help to Chinese-speaking men, but everyone is welcome. We speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English. We meet on the second Thursday of every month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Richmond Public Library (2/F Brighouse Main Branch, 7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC V6Y 1R8). Please register online at The Richmond Public Library website. Join us for the professional presentation and talk to other men and family members who have been dealing with prostate cancer for weeks, months or even years.

If you want to chat with a survivor one on one, you may drop in our walking club. The Richmond Blue Walkers walk on every Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-11am, 5-10 km along the beautiful river dykes and parks in Richmond (Walk in the Richmond Shopping Centre during the raining days or cold seasons). Click here for the schedule or contact Daniel Leung at 604-836-6423 for the locations and meeting places.

Prostate Cancer DNA Test Uses Small Blood Sample, Predicts Response to Drug
New tools developed at the Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC) are substantially advancing the possibility of offering precise, personalized therapies to effectively treat treatment-resistant prostate cancer, also known as metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
Detailed in a recently published paper in JAMA Oncology, VPC researchers have discovered a method for testing prostate cancer DNA from a small blood sample, making it possible to retrieve exact information about how the cancer is genetically changing and helping determine the type of treatment best suited to treat it at that moment.

RESOURCES + INFORMATION
Prostate cancer is still the most common male cancer in Canada and the third leading cause of cancer deaths in men. Within our country’s aging baby boomer population, prostate cancer cases will continue to increase and threaten longevity and quality of life. That is why our researchers work tirelessly to understand and ultimately control the disease.
Clinical trials are an integral part of prostate cancer research and treatment. If you are interested in participating in research please visit our website.
If you wish to make a donation to our Centre, you may do so through the following registered charities: the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, the UBC Faculty of Medicine and the Urology Foundation.
