Prostate Cancer 101



September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. "Prostate Cancer 101" focuses on the basic information you should know if you or a loved one is diagnosed or concerned about prostate cancer. Dr. Scott North will discuss the function of the prostate as well as the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer, procedures used to diagnose prostate cancer and next steps to take after a diagnosis.

TITLE: Prostate Cancer 101
LENGTH: 18 mins 

OVERVIEW: This webinar will focus on describing what the prostate is and what it does. Risk factors for the development of prostate cancer will be described as well as what symptoms and signs might be present that would give a clue to abnormalities of prostate health, including cancer. If cancer is suspected, a brief description of what diagnostic tests might be needed will be reviewed as well as next steps after a diagnosis of prostate cancer is established.
Dr. Scott North
SPEAKER: Dr. Scott North is a graduate of the University of Ottawa medical school and he received his training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the University of Alberta. He is also keenly interested in medical education and pursued a Masters in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the Section Chief of Medical Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, AB and the Division Director of Medical Oncology within the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta. He currently serves on the executive of the Genitourinary site for the Canadian Cancer Trials Group and the Canadian Uro-Oncology Group. His clinical practice is exclusively in the area of genitourinary cancer.
