September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

The Canadian Cancer Society prostate cancer statistics have now changed to 1 in 7 Canadian men.

Please note that the Canadian Cancer Society has revised the determining probability of developing cancer. The lifetime probability of developing prostate cancer has been updated to one in seven men.  This change is primarily attributed to the change in methodology and not to changes in risk.  (Reference: Canadian Cancer Statistics Advisory Committee. 17th Annual Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Conference

DESCRIPTION

For the fourth consecutive year, the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Prostate Centre’s Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program will be participating in the 17th annual Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Symposium. In conjunction with the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and the University of Washington School of Medicine, this live symposium is for patients, their families and health care professionals. Don't miss out on attending this conference that brings together the leading experts on prostate cancer to present and to discuss the latest findings regarding prostate cancer treatment, prevention, survivorship and scientific progress.

The PCSC Program is a comprehensive survivorship program developed at the Vancouver Prostate Centre for prostate cancer patients, their partners, and family from the time of initial diagnosis to end-of-life care. Located at the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, the PCSC Program is a clinical, educational, research-based approach to care, addressing the challenges of decision-making and coping along the entire disease trajectory to serve both the patient and their partner's physical and psychological needs.
