Canada has over 60 Prostate Cancer Support Groups that meet once a month. This Richmond group in British Columbia is founded in 2013 by volunteers and focused on providing help to Chinese-speaking men, but everyone is welcome. We speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin, meet on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Seniors Centre of Minoru Centre for Active Living (7191 Granville Avenue, Richmond, BC V6Y 1N9 Multipurpose Room 1 (1033)). Join us for the professional presentation and talk to other men and family members who have been dealing with prostate cancer for weeks, months or even years.

No registration is required and all ages are welcome. Please swipe your Facility Pass ($36/year for seniors 55+ or spouses) or pay a $5 drop-in fee at the front desk when arriving for each session.

If you want to chat one on one with a survivor, you may drop in our walking club. The Richmond Blue Walkers walk 5-10 km on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-11 am, along the beautiful river dykes and parks in Richmond (Walk in the Richmond Shopping Centre during the rainy days or cold seasons). Click here for the schedule or contact Daniel Leung at 604-836-6423 for the locations and meeting places.

February 2021 Prostate Cancer Support Canada Debrief

It's official!

We are proud to announce that the newly-formed Prostate Cancer Support Canada is officially a division of Prostate Cancer BC.

This new initiative will be backed by a National Support Group Council led by group leaders, Sue Sohnle from Edmonton and Jo-Anne Phillips from Moncton.

The newly branded Prostate Cancer Support Canada will assist any prostate cancer support group leader in Canada that chooses to utilize this one of a kind organization - dedicated to helping newly diagnosed men and their families across Canada.

2021 Virtual Prostate Cancer Support Workshop

It's no secret that the past year has not been easy for most of us - the isolation, the uncertainty, the waiting. For many prostate cancer patients and their loved ones, that stress has been amplified even further.

Please join us for this free, online workshop that will help you continue to manage your support groups, and your anxiety, during these challenging times.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Maintaining connections
  • Empathetic communication in a virtual environment
  • Avoiding Zoom fatigue
  • Resources that are available to the Prostate Cancer community through Prostate Cancer Support Canada and Prostate Cancer Foundation BC
  • Mindfulness and mental health with prostate cancer

In addition to the above topics, an expert panel featuring Dr. Fred Saad and Dr. Michael Cox will be available to answer questions related to COVID-19 and Prostate Cancer.

The Reef Knot Kit

Our Reef Knot Kits have gone through a full makeover and are continuing to evolve in order to ensure they are providing the most up-to-date and pertinent information for patients and their loved ones across Canada.

Please note that while each Kit will include the above materials, the Nutrition and Exercise Guides are not yet available for distribution, but will be shortly.

ADT Educational Program: Upcoming Classes

Here is an update on upcoming online classes for the Androgen Deprivation Therapy Educational Program. The next three classes will be held on February 17th, March 15th, and April 15th, all at 3:00 PM, Pacific time/6:00 PM, Eastern time.

The online ADT Educational Program is a free resource to help patients manage ADT side effects and engage in healthy lifestyle behaviours (e.g., physical activity). The program provides support to both prostate cancer patients and their partners or loved ones.

Classes are offered monthly, and patients need to register ahead of time at www.LifeOnADT.com. The class is a one-time, live (90 min.), facilitated webinar. After attending, Canadian patients are mailed a free copy of the ADT book (linked below).

https://www.amazon.com/Androgen-Deprivation-Therapy-Second-Essential/dp/0826183913

The class plus the book—can significantly raise patients’ self-efficacy in managing ADT side effects. However, it is most effective if taken early, before patients are overwhelmed by those side effects.

If you can, please inform the prostate cancer community about upcoming classes. Questions can be directed to Carly Sears, the Project Coordinator at LifeOnADT@gmail.com

Please note, Dr. Lauren Walker will also reach out to you next week with information about an important new study on a novel approach for erectile difficulties.
