Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program 前列腺癌支持護理計劃 (只有英語服務)

Welcome to Vancouver Prostate Centre’s
Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program
We invite you, as a prostate cancer patient or partner of a prostate cancer patient, to join the Vancouver Prostate Centre’s Prostate Cancer Supportive Care (PCSC) Program at the Vancouver General Hospital. We offer five separate information modules that both you and your partner can participate in:

Ø Introduction to Prostate Cancer and Primary Treatment Options
This is a 2 to 2.5-hour group information session for newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients and led by a patient advocate. This session is jointly presented by a urologist and a radiation oncologist, who discuss treatment options and answer questions from attendees. Partners and family members are also welcome.

Ø Managing the Impact of Prostate Cancer Treatments on Sexual Function
This includes a 1.5-hour group information session that focuses on the sexual side effects of prostate cancer treatments and sexual rehabilitation. One-on-one clinical appointments with our sexual health clinician before or after treatment are available as part of this program.

Ø Lifestyle Management
A healthy lifestyle has been shown to improve the quality of life for men with prostate cancer. We hold two group information session over three months, one focusing on nutrition and the other on exercise. We also offer two exercise programs for patients: 1) the “Cardiac Rehabilitation Program” for patients starting on Androgen Deprivation Therapy, located on the 6th floor at the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre; and 2) the “Exercise Together” program which is a 12-week individualized strength and cardio program for any prostate cancer patient and his partner. This program is held at Back on Track Fitness, 731 West 16th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.

Ø Adapting to Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT)
This is an educational program for prostate cancer patients starting on hormone therapy and their partners. It uses the recently published book “Androgen Deprivation Therapy: An Essential Guide for Prostate Cancer Patients and Their Loved Ones”. Participants attend a 1.5- hour introductory group session, complete the book independently at their own pace, and finish with a 1-hour follow-up group session 2-3 months later.

Ø Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

This begins with a 1.5-hour group information session that is suitable for patients both pre- and post-prostate cancer treatment to understand what can be done to reduce the effects of surgery and radiation therapy on urinary function. After you attend the information session, our physiotherapist also offers one-on-one clinical appointments for those patients with incontinence 12-weeks after surgery.

Newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients in the Vancouver area, as well as their partners are welcome to attend a special evening session "Introduction to Prostate Cancer & Primary Treatment Options" held by the Prostate Cancer Supportive Care (PCSC) Program at the Vancouver Prostate Centre.

These sessions are held twice a month on a Wednesday evening (545pm) in the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at Vancouver General Hospital. The sessions run about 2 to 2. 5 hours and include presentations on the basic biology of prostate cancer and locally available treatment options.

The presenters include:
